A Banned Book
I purchased a novel the other day that I have been thinking about reading for many moons now – D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover. I am intrigued to see what this novel contains that caused it to be banned in the UK from 1930 to 1960. Lawrence was a Brit, and supposedly wrote this novel with the intent to make beautiful. The cover of my particular edition has this quotation, “I always labour at the same thing, to make the relation valid and precious, instead of shameful. And this novel is the hest I’ve gone. To me it is beautiful and tender and frail as the self is…It will bring me only abuse and hatred.” – D.H. Lawrence.
